Paul T. Mayo

 

Paul T. Mayo of Ginter, PA died on Sunday, October 14, 2007 due to an accident while felling trees near his home.

 

He was born in San Diego, CA on February 15, 1941, the son of the late David and Mary (Burke) Mayo.

 

Paul served in the U.S. Navy and was a plank owner of the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk. In 1985 he retired from the National Hot Rod Association after a long and successful career winning many National Championships. Earlier this year he was inducted into the Legion of Honor of the National Nostalgic Drag Racing Association in recognition of his achievements during the 1960’s and 70’s.

 

He is survived by his wife, Jeannine Rockwell Mayo of Ginter, and the following children;

          Joseph Mayo and his wife, Mary, of Frazer, PA

          Timothy Mayo and his wife, Sue, of Downingtown, PA

          Terri Wintersdorf and her husband, Bill, of Tavares, FL and

          Christopher Mayo and his wife, Gudrun, of Langenaltheim, Germany

 

Paul Mayo is survived by seven grandchildren; Joshua, Elizabeth, Theresa, Jessica, Rebecca, Zack and Hannah.

 

He, also, is survived by a sister, Anne (Conestoga class of 1958) Winnick Rabenold and her husband, Norm, of Phoenixville, PA and a brother, David (Conestoga class of 1957)Mayo and his wife, Betty (Conestoga class of 1957) Woodson Mayo, of West Chester, PA.

 

Also surviving Paul are his mother-in-law and step-father-in-law, Joan and Jim Gray, of Clearfield, PA.

 

A Memorial Mass was celebrated in Christ The King Catholic Church, Houtzdale, PA on Friday, October, 19, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. FR. Zab Amar was the celebrant. Military honors were conducted by the Janesville V.F.W. Post 6321 and the American Legion Post 591, Houtzdale.

 

The family request memorial contributions be made to the Kitty Hawk Veteran’s Association, the Altoona SPCA or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
