October 5, 2007 Posted on Wed, Oct 3, 2007 in the Times Herald of Montgomery County about our classmate, Jean Rossiter Smith. 'Quite a ride' By GARY PULEO CONSHOHOCKEN There’d be no stuffy retirement dinner, with its reserved seating and special forks for the salad. That just wasn’t her style. Jean Rossiter Smith had other ideas for her grand finale. Just chill the Coke, throw some burgers on the grill and invite the whole world. That’s what she requested as a sendoff into retirement life and, thanks to her many obliging friends and co-workers at Colonial Neighborhood Council, that’s exactly what she got recently. Even the weather played ball with the program, casting a sunny demeanor over the entire day — Jean Smith Day, as they called it in her honor. “I wanted everybody who wanted to come to be able to do that, and not worry about how they were dressed, or worry about anything financially … just come and have a good time,” Smith explained. “This way it was open to everybody.” |
