September 24, 2007 Our classmate, Lane Helms , has sent pictures of himself as a race driver. You can view these at Lane Helms collage . The stock cars have no windshields, so there are vertical bars across the diver side to protect the driver from debris. Here is what he says. Hi Bill, Running a business doesn’t qualify as keeping me active. I am one of those kids who never grew up. Attached are pictures of one of my hobbies. On weekends I race stock cars. I have two stock cars, one in the Enduro (300 lap) class, and one in the Modified Class (400+HP). I have an excellent pit crew that keeps my cars in tip top shape between races. Currently, I am running in the top 10 for Canada’s prairie division. For the record, attached are photos of my stock car racing. Also attached is a photo of my 1940 Merc Convertible. I built this hot rod using a ’98 Lincoln 32 valve motor, an AOD transmission coupled to a ’92 Jaguar diff and independent rear end. It Scoots! (Funny, I don’t feel 68 until I look in the mirror.) When I am not racing, I like to sky dive. I would rather try hang gliding, but here on the prairies, there are not enough mountains for that. We have to grow old, we do not have to grow up!
