Induction of William Shockley into the Conestoga Hall Athletic of Fame October 25, 2008 The next paragraph is copied from the induction ceremony program. William "Butch"
Shockley, 1956 (Posthumously) Butch
is the measure by which all football players at Conestoga are measured. Butch was a member of CHS Hall of Fame coach
Bill Paolantonio's first team. There are few records
to attest to Butch's greatness. Those who played with Butch describe his
exploits as nothing like they have seen before or since. All those who knew and played with Butch say
that as great a player as he was on the field, his achievements never came
close to the man that he was off the field.
Butch played varsity football for three years at West Chester State
Teacher's College. The team went 25 - 2
during this period, and in 1957, was undefeated. Butch played an integral role in the success
of that team. In 1959, |
